The Role & Responsibilities


The purpose of the ‘Senior Conduct Risk Manager - Retail’ role is to support the Retail franchise’s implementation and maintenance of the Bank’s Compliance & Conduct risk frameworks and policies to ensure compliance with FCA regulations and the Bank’s Compliance & Conduct risk appetite.


This role will be responsible for supporting the Head of Conduct Risk - Retail to advise and assist the Retail franchise to operate within risk and regulatory parameters.


Key Responsibilities


Regulatory Awareness & Change: Uphold an awareness of the Retail franchise’s exposure to the evolving regulatory landscape, with adequate and timely communication of the position to the Head of Conduct Risk - Retail and other relevant stakeholders. Oversee and support the delivery of required change, which will include attendance at change meetings/working groups to provide advice, guidance, support, and challenge, escalating to the Head of Conduct Risk - Retail where appropriate) where there are risks to delivery.


Policy: Support the embedding of Compliance & Conduct policies (and supporting policies and procedures) across Retail, including adequate and timely communication of any material non-compliance to the Head of Conduct Risk - Retail and other relevant stakeholders.


Compliance & Conduct Advice and Support: Ensure timely, relevant and proportionate advice and training is provided to Retail stakeholders on the applicability of regulations and guidance to the Retail franchise and to retail products and journeys (i.e. support in understanding what impact the regulation has on people, systems and processes). Oversee delivery of non-regulatory driven change, which will include attendance at change meetings/working groups to provide advice, guidance, and challenge, escalating to the Head of Conduct Risk - Retail where there are risks to delivery. Review and approve assets which are classified as financial promotions.


Regulatory and Conduct Risk Management: Raise breaches/risk events where activities/actions have occurred (or not occurred) which result in a breach of Compliance or Conduct Risk appetite and track actions that relate to Compliance or Conduct Risk assigned to owners within Retail.


Regulatory Governance: Support the Head of Conduct Risk – Retail to maintain appropriate governance arrangements within the Retail franchise for Compliance & Conduct risks, including:


  • Attendance at other Risk and Management forums where the Retail Compliance & Conduct agenda is discussed and escalating outputs to the Head of Conduct Risk – Retail.


  • Continual review, challenge and oversight of Compliance & Conduct MI, escalating outputs to the Head of Conduct Risk - Retail.


Culture: Fostering an effective Compliance and Conduct culture across the Retail franchise


The Person


  • Knowledge: An in depth understanding of the financial services sector with specific focus on Consumer Lending, Savings and Finance and the regulatory landscape.


  • Capability: An ability to work well under pressure and ability to prioritise and manage multiple, complex projects simultaneously. An inquisitive and curious approach to providing compliance and risk oversight. A strong ability to influence with the ability to package and present ideas and gain agreement.


  • Relationship Management: Work collaboratively with 1st and 2nd line teams. Possess an aptitude for developing strong working relationships with strategic, operational and risk management colleagues, with an ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
