Assistant Production Manager - Reporting to: Production Manager
Join a successful, family-run food manufacturing business based in Manchester, known for commitment to quality, people-first culture, and long-standing relationships with customers across the UK. Due to continued growth, they are looking for an experienced and hands-on Assistant Production Manager to support the Production Manager in leading daily operations on the factory floor.
The Role
As Assistant Production Manager, you will play a key role in ensuring the smooth running of the food production operations. You’ll be responsible for helping manage day-to-day activities, supporting production teams, driving continuous improvement, and maintaining high standards of food safety, quality, and efficiency.
Key Responsibilities

Support the Production Manager in leading and supervising the production team on daily shifts

Monitor production schedules, output and targets to ensure timely delivery and high-quality standards

Lead by example on the factory floor – hands-on support when required

Help manage stock levels of raw materials and packaging

Ensure compliance with health and safety and food hygiene regulations (HACCP, BRC, etc.)

Assist in staff training, development and performance management

Investigate and resolve production issues and implement improvements

Participate in audits and quality inspections

Provide accurate daily reporting to the Production Manager
Requirements
-
Previous experience in a food production or FMCG environment
-
Experience in a supervisory or team leader role within manufacturing

Strong understanding of food safety standards, health & safety, and quality systems

Great communication and team leadership skills
-
Highly organised, with strong attention to detail

Flexible and proactive approach to problem-solving

Comfortable working in a fast-paced, hands-on role

IT literate (MS Office, ERP systems)
Desirable
-
Level 3 Food Safety and HACCP training
-
Experience in a BRC-accredited environment
-
FLT licence or willingness to train
