Tasks

  • Support Senior Construction Manager and work with Security Manager to help plan site set-up to move labour, plant, and materials around site efficiently (eg hoarding, gates, site accommodation, cranes, hoists, security, temporary services, material delivery and waste management strategy, catering).
  • Manage a logistics team to plan internal and external logistics operations for each route on and between the various sites including Park and Ride, Distribution hub centres, laydown areas, temporary project vehicle parking on the local public highways.
  • Develop and maintain Construction Logistics Plan, Traffic Management Plan, Delivery Management System, route risk assessments, Construction Logistics & Community Safety Plan
  • Manage Fleet Operator Recognition Scheme, compliance and assurance
  • Help create secure sites
  • Responsible for all traffic management internally and externally, weighbridges and road network cleanliness.
  • Manage installation of site accommodation and manage these facilities
  • Create operational procedures and method statements
  • Create a schedule of logistics meetings and ensure logistics is represented at site meetings.
  • Manage compliance and performance reporting
  • Select, manage and enforce (with the support of the senior construction manager) a project delivery and transport management system
  • Provide logistics policy and instruction to all project suppliers.
  • Manage and track all vehicular movements to and from sites and maintain records.
  • Manage and oversee logistics staff and teams to ensure efficient unloading and loading of vehicles on sites. Establish and maintain safe working practices for all logistics operations on and off site to ensure safe and secure loads.
  • Manage compliance and maintain dialogue with suppliers to ensure compliance with project standards
  • Develop and manage daily, weekly and long-term movement plans
  • Liaise with procurement, security and construction departments
  • Control materials in and out of site.
  • Help plan and understand the logistics requirements of Tier 2 contractors to ensure project programme delivery and integration of their works
  • Evaluate potential logistic suppliers and appropriate delivery management booking systems.
  • Record keeping and key performance indicator (KPI) production.

Qualifications

  • The candidate will be enthusiastic about becoming further qualified in construction Logistics disciplines for themselves and those who work as direct reports.
  • Experience of logistics management, including site experience on construction projects to fulfil the required roles as appropriate to the works.
  • Knowledge and practical experience of legal requirements and how to comply with them, including section 60 & 61, driver hours, construction logistics plans, vehicles and safe driving.
  • Good knowledge of site establishment and ongoing operation and maintenance.
  • Good knowledge of safe operational practice of vehicles, equipment and methods of loading and off-loading.
  • Good knowledge and practical experience of materials scheduling planning and organising deliveries to/from sites.
  • Experience of liaison with stakeholders including local authorities, police and highways authorities.
  • Working knowledge of CLOCS, FORS, Safety at Street Works COP, Traffic Signs Manual Chapter 8, Traffic Management Act 2004 & Disability Discrimination Act 2005.
  • Good Interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Practical understanding of Temporary Traffic Regulation Orders.
  • Experience of working in the Construction, Utilities Industry or Highway Authority.
  • Experience of managing and administrating commercial contracts.
