Deliver innovative and safe geotechnical design solutions across high-impact water and rail infrastructure projects
Our client has a requirement for a Senior Geotechnical Design Engineer, who will be required to work on a contract basis in Manchester
Role Purpose:
Deliver high-quality geotechnical and civil engineering design solutions within the water and rail sectors
Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and industry regulations across all design outputs
Support the successful execution of projects through expert technical input and leadership
Job Role Responsibilities:
Produce detailed geotechnical and civil engineering design calculations and drawings
Prepare site investigation briefs, technical reports, and project specifications
Ensure design deliverables meet required safety, quality, and professional standards
Lead and mentor junior engineers, graduates, and CAD technicians
Conduct and contribute to formal design reviews, including IDC/KM7 meetings and technical presentations
Accurately estimate time and resources for design activities and deliverables
Implement and document changes to design packages in a structured manner
Collaborate effectively with multi-disciplinary teams to meet project milestones
Experience / Skills / Knowledge / Qualifications:
Minimum 10 years of experience in geotechnical and/or civil engineering design
Strong background in geotechnics, including preparation of ground investigation specifications and interpretive reports
Degree or HND in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering (or equivalent)
Proficient in relevant engineering design software and IT tools
Registered with a professional engineering body and actively pursuing chartership
Effective communication and presentation skills with a focus on results, quality, and safety
Committed to mentoring, collaboration, and continuous professional development
Preferred:
Chartered Engineer status (advantageous but not essential)
Experience in the water and/or rail sectors
Familiarity with construction methodologies, GI techniques, and regulated infrastructure environments (e.g., utilities, nuclear, highways)
Knowledge of engineering drawing standards and multi-disciplinary design practices
