Part of UK Schools, the Assessment division combines excellence in assessment with outstanding customer experience. The Assessment division has end-to-end responsibility for delivering on-time, accurate results of high stakes UK and international qualifications to our learners and first-class customer service to all our customers.

The Assessment Division Comprises

  • Content team - accountable for the accurate delivery of our secure high stakes UK and international assessment instruments as well as non-secure content
  • Quality and improvement team - accountable for quality assurance, post results services, improvement initiatives (including assessment monitoring), regulatory research (including consultations)
  • Strategy and customer team - accountable for delivery of assessment-related transformational, strategic and customer initiatives
  • Online assessment transformation team - accountable for delivering online transformation initiatives and support of online marking system

The Assessment Delivery Manager is accountable for delivering assessment-related strategic and customer initiatives for the Assessment division and in line with the UK Schools 5-19 strategy.

Purpose

The Assessment Delivery Manager will hold assessment content and delivery teams to account for the delivery of question papers and results to learners for Pearson’s suite of General Qualifications and International qualifications, including International GCSE, International A Level and PEIC General and Young Learners. Alongside this, the role holder will have responsibility for driving transformational change in Assessment, including how we work, how we deliver our content and assessments and how we work with other parts of the business. They will also ensure the integrity of our results and post-result results processes.

The role will involve matrix management of a team of content and assessment experts, working with colleagues in stakeholder divisions to ensure the timely, accurate and successful delivery of all of Pearson’s General Qualifications. It also involves the direct management of three heads, responsible for examination set up, delivery and post results services.

The Purpose Of The Assessment Delivery Manager Is

  • The leadership of a large team within a matrix structure, ensuring engagement, motivation and a culture of continuous improvement
  • Support the successful delivery of content to time and quality, seeing papers pass for press in line with downstream set-up and testing activities
  • The successful delivery of each assessment series within prescribed regulatory requirements so that results can withstand scrutiny by internal audit and all stakeholders including Ofqual, candidates and parents
  • The management of delivery including seeking efficiency improvements within budgetary constraints
  • The transformation of how the content and assessment delivery teams operate, including how we deliver our assessments and how we work with other parts of the business, and continuously improve our performance.

Key Accountabilities Customer Service

  • Leading the Assessment division in ensuring first class customer service by achieving internal and external service levels and driving change where service levels are not met
  • Developing effective relationships with stakeholders to ensure efficiencies in operational delivery are contributing to retention and growth targets.
  • Providing guidance and support for assessment staff on what constitutes quality question papers, mark schemes and assessment instruments
  • Leading AA relations for GQ assessment

Deliver High Stakes UK And International Qualifications

  • Partner with teams across the business to produce and maintain key management information and action plans based on the management information to ensure all milestones are met
  • Proactively work with the delivery teams to ensure action plans are committed to, to ensure on-time delivery every time, across content and delivery
  • Lead on and represent Assessment on cross-company projects
  • Lead on the active management and resolution of delivery issues and risks across the wider Pearson business, and ensuring that contingency plans and lessons learned are put in place after any incident
  • Ensure all issues and risks relating to delivery are identified and actively managed
  • Timely delivery of robust and auditable examination outcomes, including responsibility for ensuring results sign off process happens on time and accurately for GQA
  • Manage series set up and close down activities to time
  • Manage post-results activities across the department, ensuring regulatory compliance and the highest quality
  • To develop robust quality control mechanisms that minimise the risk of errors for business critical activities and ensure our adherence to core business standards
  • Manage the delivery process for Reasonable adjustments and international contingency for assessment.

Leadership and people management

  • Be recognised as a leader within Assessment, as well as across UK Schools, and deliver best in class line management experience
  • Be accountable for ensuring direct reports have effective training and development opportunities to enable them to succeed, including creating opportunities for high performance as well as actively managing and supporting poor performance
  • Being a positive advocate for Assessment within the division, as well as across UK Schools, modelling Pearson behaviours and leading by example
  • Actively contribute to, and deliver, the UK Schools people strategy, driving people initiatives within Assessment as appropriate
  • Accountable for identifying and developing talent within Assessment, including recruitment and retention
  • Be responsible for managing processes and teams based in different locations as appropriate
