DWP. Digital with Purpose.

Are you an experienced Senior Cloud Infrastructure Engineer?

We're looking for a Senior Infrastructure Engineer to join our amazing DWP Digital community.

This is a fantastic opportunity to join DWP Hybrid Cloud Services as a Senior Cloud Infrastructure Engineer and to create innovative digital solutions that make a difference to the lives of our 22 million users.

DWP is the UK's largest government department. We help people into work and make payments worth over £195bn a year to support some of the most vulnerable people in our society.

Our DWP Digital teams are driving a once-in-a-generation transformation of government services, using fresh ideas and leading-edge technologies to create innovative, scalable and user-centric digital solutions.

You'll help change the face of public services used by nearly every person in the UK. The scale of what we do is extraordinary, and our purpose is unique. We'd love you to join us.

Design. Work. Pipelines.

As a Cloud Infrastructure Engineer you will work in an agile multidisciplinary team building and operating products and services that are consumed by the rest of DWP Digital.

You will build centralised, shared cloud infrastructure services that allow application teams to build, deploy and scale applications quickly to serve our citizens.

You will design, implement, administer and support cloud infrastructure technologies, solutions and services such as:

  • Networking and cloud connectivity
  • Continuous integration
  • Container administration
  • PaaS and SaaS services.

Tell me more:

You will have a deep understanding of cloud tools and technologies, especially around infrastructure-as-code, CI/CD pipelines, containers and cloud networking.

You should also have an appreciation of information security, designing solutions and services with security controls embedded, specifically engineered as mitigation against security threats as a core part of the solutions and services.

What skills, knowledge and experience will you need?

The successful candidate will have demonstrable experience of building and operating systems in at least 3 of these areas:

  • Implementation and maintenance of CI/CD pipelines using Gitlab or equivalent
  • Container build and runtime environments
  • Writing and maintaining Infrastructure as Code
  • Cloud networking
  • Operating systems, including Microsoft Windows and Redhat Linux
  • Kubernetes administration and associated technologies e.g. Flux, Helm.

Details. Wages. Perks.

You'll join us in one of our brilliant digital hubs in Blackpool, Leeds, Manchester or Newcastle, whichever is most convenient for you.

We also have all the tools and tech we need to enable our people to work and collaborate flexibly. We work a hybrid model, with some time at home and some time in a hub with the team.

We offer competitive pay of up to £73,153.

You'll be eligible for a brilliant civil service pension with employer contributions worth over a minimum of £15,000 per year.

You'll get a generous leave package starting at 26 days, plus all the usual bank holidays, and the option to take extra days off on flexi leave.

We also have a broad benefits package built around your work-life balance which includes:

  • Flexible working, flexi hours and flexi days
  • Hybrid working: some time in a hub with the team, some time at home
  • Family-friendly policies
  • Time off volunteering and charitable giving
  • Bring your authentic self to work with 'I Can Be Me in DWP'
  • Discounts and savings on shopping, fun days out and more
  • Interest-free loans to buy a bike or a season ticket, so it's even easier for you to get to work and start making a difference
  • Working in an award-winning environment and culture
  • Professional development, coaching, mentoring and career progression opportunities
