Reporting to: Underwriting Centre Manager


Position Summary


Support the execution of the business plan by supporting underwriting teams, focusing on developing underwriting skills and technical knowledge whilst helping to manage existing accounts and identifying new business opportunities. Utilises underwriting policies and guidelines, rating manual rules and insurance laws and regulations.


Key Responsibilities


Reviews applications and financial requirements for risks requiring underwriting skills.


Determines acceptability of risk in accordance with company guidelines and standards.


  • Contribute to business plan achievement by handling renewals within underwriting authority.
  • Support the preparation of the business plan and any other document/ information as required.
  • Prepares quotations and answers questions from Brokers, internal and external contacts and escalates issues as necessary.
  • Support the monitoring and control of the business, as directed by Underwriters
  • Prepare and report figures and statistics for the business unit or team account.
  • Develops and maintains positive Broker relationships.
  • Comply with all applicable legal and regulatory requirements and ensure, at a level appropriate to the position, that appropriate measures are in place to ensure this compliance
  • Develop proficiency in all relevant CNA systems.
  • May update the underwriting systems.
  • May perform additional duties as assigned.


Skills, Knowledge & Experience


  • Demonstrated understanding of business objectives and the market in which we operate.
  • Ability to plan and organise own role effectively
  • Good understanding of risk management and governance framework and how own role fits into it
  • Knowledge of underwriting and insurance industry theories and practices.
  • Developing technical expertise and negotiation skills.
  • Effective communication, influencing and rapport building skills
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Good analytical and problem solving skills
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment and make sound business decisions effectively.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite as well as other business-related software.
  • Ability to use appropriate systems to the technical level required
  • Appropriate knowledge of all relevant regulatory and legal requirements applicable to the position
